excess [ongoing]
In this series I am working with the provocations of excess. Refusing the confinement of fast-drippy-gestural vs. hard-edge-deliberate languages in abstraction, I consider paint from a tactile perspective. The starting point is always the unapologetic declaration of flatness, from which thick layering and applications of paint build up to grotesque abstractions. In these unpolished, time-bound compositions, each application of oil paint requires at least a month to dry. I play with the idea of sculpting time and space in an outward, expansive, slow gesture toward the viewer.
